Research Description

I am investigating the effect of the presence of bigtooth aspen clones (Populus grandidenta) on biological diversity within the oak-hickory forests of southeastern Ohio.  I am asking the following questions:  Do bigtooth aspen alter microenvironment conditions of the forest floor?  Do species assemblages differ beneath bigtooth aspen clones and the larger oak-hickory matrix?  How do bigtooth aspen clones contribute to the overall plant diversity of the forest understory in oak-hickory systems?  My research will be of value to land managers working to preserve the health and diversity of forest ecosystems in the mixed-oak forests of the Eastern United States.
