Degree Program: M.S. in Environmental Studies

Research Description

My research is focused on reintroduction studies of American chestnut (Castanea dentata) in Southeast

Ohio Oak forests.  I will be studying the microenvironments of 1200 chestnuts that were planted in the spring of 2002 within three local forests; Raccoon Ecological Management Area, Zaleski State Forest and Tar Hollow State Forest.  I will be asking:  What is the germination percentage and establishment rate of Castanea dentata seeds in four different stand management treatments?  What micro-environmental factors influence the survival and growth rate of C. dentata seedlings?
